Gettin’ Grimey: Grime Writing

I’ve been doing lots of research on grime writing (aka reverse grafitti) lately. It’s a non-damaging sustainable art form (another “sustainable art form” is yarn bombing). There are a few street artists who have done some really magnificent work in this style. What they are doing is wiping away the grime from parts of a filthy surface to leave a ghostly image out of the cleaned spaces. The video below shows Sao Paolo street artist Ossario working on a project, which was unfortunately removed–when the city had the rest of the tunnel wall, and several other tunnels in the city power washed, after years upon years of dirt buildup that would have otherwise remained untouched for another decade or two or three…
